Wall We present a method to recover the reflectance of objects and the parameters of multiple lights using a 3D image acquired by a depth sensor and a stereo intensity pair. Experimental evaluation shows the ability to recover varying diffuse and constant specular reflectance parameters from object images, and simultaneously the locations and intensities of up to three distinct light sources. 2008 Elsevier B.V. Estimation of Illuminant Direction and Intensity of Multiple Light Sources

This paper presents a novel scheme for locating multiple light sources and estimating their intensities from a pair of stereo images of a sphere. No prior knowledge of the location and radius of the sphere is necessary. The sphere surface is not assumed to be a pure Lambertian surface, instead, it has both Lambertian and specular properties. The light source locating algorithm is based on the f...

Determining Reflectance and Light Position from a Single Image Without Distant Illumination Assumption

Several techniques have been developed for recovering reflectance properties of real surfaces under unknown illumination conditions. However, in most cases, those techniques assume that the light sources are located at inifinity, which cannot be applied to, for example, photometric modeling of indoor environments. In this paper, we propose two methods to estimate the surface reflectance propert...

Estimation of Illumination Distribution by Using Soft Shadows

The image irradiance of a three-dimensional object is known to be the function of three components: the distribution of light sources, the shape, and reflectance of a real object surface. In the past, recovering the shape and reflectance of an object surface from the recorded image brightness has been intensively investigated. On the other hand, there has been little progress in recovering illu...

Recovering Shading from Color Images

Existing shape-from-shading algorithms assume constant reflectance across the shaded surface. Multi-colored surfaces are excluded because both shading and reflectance affect the measured image intensity. Given a standard RGB color image, we describe a method of eliminating the reflectance effects in order to calculate a shading field that depends only on the relative positions of the illuminant...
